Das Thema des dritten Arkadien-Festivals „Schöne neue Welt“ ist ein Verweis auf Aldous Huxleys gleichnamigen Roman, der eine dystopische Zukunft entwirft, wie sie in den Augen mancher mehr und mehr Realität wird.

Ob der Ukraine-Krieg und seine Folgen, die Entwicklung totalitärer Strukturen, neu aufkommender Nationalismus, ein rasant wachsender Kapitalismus, zunehmende soziale Problemstellungen, der Klimawandel, die Digitalisierung, eine sich verändernde Arbeitswelt, die Polarisierung und Spaltung der Gesellschaft, all das muss verhandelt werden. Ein künstlerisches Forum dafür bietet das Arkadien-Festival.

Der Topos Arkadien - als Entwurf eines unbeschwerten Daseins - begleitet die europäische Kulturgeschichte seit der Antike. Vor allem in den Künsten hat dieses Wunschbild über die Jahrhunderte immer wieder Ausdruck gefunden. Arkadien ist das Sehnsuchtsziel eines sorglosen Seins, frei von zivilisatorischen Zwängen, in idealer Landschaft, in der Muße, Frieden, Liebe und Harmonie einen fruchtbaren Ort als Inbegriff vollkommenen Daseins bilden. Hinter diesem Grundgedanken steckt die politische Idee eines friedlichen Miteinanders in Wohlstand, ohne Kriege, entfremdeter Arbeit und gesellschaftlichem Anpassungsdruck, aber auch ein mögliches Modell für eine gerechtere soziale Zukunft.

The theme of the third Arcadia Festival "Brave New World" is a reference to Aldous Huxley's novel of the same name, which sketches a dystopian future, as it is becoming more and more reality in the eyes of some.Whether the Ukraine war and its consequences, the development of totalitarian structures, newly emerging nationalism, a rapidly growing capitalism, increasing social problems, climate change, digitalization, a changing world of work, the polarization and division of society, all this must be negotiated. The Arcadia Festival offers an artistic forum for this. The topos of Arcadia - as a blueprint for a carefree existence - has accompanied European cultural history since antiquity. Especially in the arts, this ideal has found expression again and again over the centuries. Arcadia is the longing goal of a carefree existence, free of civilizing constraints, in an ideal landscape, where leisure, peace, love and harmony form a fertile place as the epitome of perfect existence. Behind this basic idea is the political idea of a peaceful coexistence in prosperity, without wars, alienated work and social pressure to conform, but also a possible model for a more just social future.
